HiWi positions (m/f/d) and Master thesis positions in Computational Neuroscience

HiWi positions (m/f/d) and Master thesis positions in Computational Neuroscience are available in the Tchumatchenko group (Universitätsklinikum Bonn).

The Tchumatchenko Group is seeking highly motivated Bachelor, Master, HiWi candidates to conduct research in the field of computational neuroscience and help us with scientific writing tasks. The scientific questions we focus on are circuit-level function of neural networks and synaptic dynamics. Our group is one of the leading computational neuroscience teams in Europe and obtained competitive prizes and third-party funding from the German Research Foundation, European Research Council and other funding schemes.

Hiwi positions and Master theses in scientific data analysis

The projects will involve tool development in python for the analysis of neural activity data. The projects are focused on python programming and deep learning for the analysis of neural activity data and require an interdisciplinary mind set. Remote work is possible, starting September 1st 2023 also in person in Bonn Endenich. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, team-oriented under-/graduate in Life Sciences, Math, Physics or related disciplines who has programming experience. Prior experience with advanced Python libraries and deep learning is advantageous but not a requirement. Candidates should be enthusiastic about working in a competitive interdisciplinary research team. Interested candidates can also apply to conduct Master thesis work in computational neuroscience in our group.

HiWi position in scientific writing

Your tasks would include proofreading of scientific and non-scientific texts, writing of non-scientific and scientific texts and the corresponding data analysis. The ideal candidate has strong English (and ideally German skills), great interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently as well as the willingness to honour time commitments. This position is ideal for students interested in gaining scientific communication and writing skills.

Good communication skills, a strong work ethic, excellent command of the English language are essential for both positions as well as the ability to work remotely (until Sept 2023).

The salary for HiWi position will be according to the public German salary scale, start date negotiable.
